I wake up with a song in my head. Every single day. EVERY single day. I can usually pinpoint where it came from the day before: playing in my car when I got home from work, overheard it on a TV commercial. I really never thought much about it and assumed it happened to everyone.
Until a number of years ago when I posted about it on Facebook and asked other people what songs they woke up with in their heads. Crickets.
So I started asking people in person….you hear songs in your head when you wake up each day, right? It was a pretty resounding NO. Hmmmmmm.
Time went by, the songs continued and then one day it occurred to me. Perhaps this is my higher self / my guides / the universe trying to communicate with me. SURELY if I wrote them down every day, I would begin to see a message. So I started writing them down:
Ever since the beginning, to keep the world spinning, it takes all kinds of kinds
I just want a little bit of everything
Heaven let your light shine down
(I was listening to a fair amount of country music at this time)
Mine would be you
Pain is the price of freedom
When I opened up my eyes I saw the sign
Got a little drunk last night
(Okay, I had drank a bit too much the night before this one. Hat tip universe. Very funny.)
But nothing really. I wasn't getting it. It seemed very random. So I quit and kind of forgot about it but the daily songs continued.
Then about a year ago, there was a discussion on one of the Facebook groups I'm on about exactly this kind of thing. There were different theories but a general agreement that angels (or guides) put these songs in our head for a reason. AHA! Just as I had suspected. So I went back to tracking them for awhile:
You can tell me that it's over. That the high was worth the pain.
But when the daylight comes, I'll have to go, but tonight I'm gonna hold you so close.
I wanna kiss you in the morning
Kind of seems like some kind of unrequited love affair in my dreams, no??
I STILL haven't figured it out. They don't seem to connect to my dreams in any particular way. This morning I woke up with the song You Don't Have to Leave Me Lucille in my head. Except the name was Irene. Weird. I don't know an Irene. And I haven't heard that song in YEARS. So does anyone have any theories? Do you hear songs in the morning? Help me solve this decades long mystery!
